New Year’s launch for Conran’s Boundary

Terence Conran’s first private venture in 20 years, Boundary in Shoreditch, set to launch on New Year’s Eve

Kicking off the restaurant openings for 2009 is Boundary by Terence Conran, a collection of ‘restaurants with rooms’ in the heart of Shoreditch and the entrepreneur’s first private venture in 20 years.

A joint venture between Conran, his wife Vicki and Peter Prescott, the six-floor building will house a 124-cover basement restaurant with room for private dining and a bar, headed up by Richard Hamlin of the Blueprint Caf?.

The ground floor will then be home to the Albion, a typical British caf? specialising in baked and fresh British produce, which will be open until midnight seven days a week.

A further restaurant and bar will also be situated upon the rooftop, where up to 48 guests can enjoy food from the grill around a brightly lit fireplace from March 2009.

Sandwiching the restaurants are four floors of 12 bedrooms and five spacious suites, four of which include small outside spaces. Conran describes the rooms as having ‘a level of comfort more akin to a private home’, and will be providing all the accoutrements associated with a five-star hotel.

“One of the most interesting elements has been developing the individual concepts for each of the seventeen bedrooms,” he said. “This has allowed me to create spaces inspired by designers and design movements that I most admire.

“Having three restaurants, a bakery and food store has also allowed me to work closely with the chef on all of the menus, the sommeliers on the wine list and my buying team for all of the table ware.”

Boundary’s launch party will take place on 31 December 2008, with the building becoming fully operational on 6 January 2009.
