MJMK has quietly closed its Cuba-inspired restaurant and bar La Rampa, located on London’s Market Place close to Oxford Circus tube, less than two years after it launched.

It is understood the site permanently shut its doors sometime within the last three weeks.

A comment on the La Rampa website reads: "We have made the difficult decision to close La Rampa until further notice, to pave the way for some exciting new restaurant projects."

MJMK, which is headed by Marco Mendes and Jake Kasumov and also operates Piri-piri chicken brand Casa do Frango, opened La Rampa in August 2021.

The concept took inspiration from 1950s Havana and served a menu of authentic Cuban cocktails and a food inspired by the island with influences from Central and Southern America.

It was previously understood that MJMK was positioning La Rampa for potential expansion. Restaurant has reached out to the group for further comment about the closure.

Alongside Casa do Frango, MJMK operates a diverse portfolio that also includes Santiago Lasta's Michelin-starred Mexican restaurant Kol, and Nuno Mendes’s Lisboeta on Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia.

The group is also preparing to launch AngloThai's John and Desiree Chantarasak's first permanent restaurant, which is expected to open on Eastcastle Street in Fitzrovia later this year.
