London-based restaurant group and coffee roaster Caravan has attained B Corp certification.

The all-day dining concept follows in the footsteps of other B Corp-certified hospitality operators such as Hawksmoor, Blacklock and Pizza Pilgrims, as well as specialty roasters including Grind, Origin and Pact Coffee.

Founders Laura Harper-Hinton, Chris Ammermann and Miles Kirby said the dual nature of the business as a specialty coffee roaster and restaurant made its journey to B Corp ‘unique.’

The World Coffee Portal reports the group scored 83.3 in its B Impact Assessment, compared to a global average of 50.9.

Caravan credited sustainable coffee sourcing programmes, energy-efficient roasting, and charity partnerships as important factors behind its B Impact Assessment Score. It also credited its Female Producer Programme, which sees the business source at least 50% of its coffee from women-owned farms.

The group currently operates eight restaurants across London and is to make its regional debut in Manchester this summer. It also operates three coffee brew bars and a 10,000 sq ft roastery in London, with wholesale, subscription and ecommerce channels.

“We are so thrilled to have achieved B Corp for both our coffee and our restaurant businesses,” said Laura Harper Hinton, CEO, Caravan.

“It has been a three-year journey and we are delighted to be part of a community focusing their impact, both on people and the planet.”
