Boxcar Bread & Wine to open in Connaught Village
Neighbourhood restaurant and artisan bakery group Boxcar will launch its third venue in the capital this month.

Boxcar Bread & Wine will open on 15th October in Connaught Village near Hyde Park.

The 70-cover venue will initially open as a daytime space serving house-made pastries and seasonal lunch dishes but from November will also transition into a candle-lit evening setting featuring small plates and biodynamic wines.

The kitchen will be led by head chef Zisis Gkalmpenis with the pastry selection headed up by executive pastry chef Liza Kermanidou.

Daily menu items will include pain au chocolat; matcha croissant; orange blossom brioche; and cinnamon rice pudding danish with roasted plums as well as seasonal salads, house-baked breads, and daily specials.

The evening menu, served from November, will features dishes such as chargrilled Hereford ribeye steak; pan-roasted Cornish sea bass; and a selection of British cheeses served with house-made bread and accompaniments.

Boxcar was founded by restaurateurs Ankur Wishart and Barry Hirst, the minds behind London-based pub and dining rooms The Broadcaster and The Lighterman. It operates two London venues - Boxcar Baker & Deli in Marylebone, and Boxcar Bar & Grill in Marble Arch.

“Our growth is driven by our commitment to our team, providing more opportunities for our people across all our venues,” says managing director Wishart.

“At Boxcar, we believe that fostering talent is key to creating exceptional experiences.”

Boxcar has reported like-for-like revenue growth of 24% year-on-year and an increase in group EBITDA, which has risen by over 200% in the same period.
