A NEW cafe has been launched on London’s Southbank celebrating renowned artist and cookbook author Salvador Dali.
Adjoining the current Dali Universe, the cafe will be under the guidance of Sebastian Ryder, formerly of Peyton & Byrne, Oliver Peyton’s acclaimed British bakery.
The cafe is offering afternoon teas, and an extensive menu including many dishes inspired by Dal?’s home country, such as Catalonian Meat Pie; Pear, Blue Cheese and Rocket Salad and a Serrano Ham with Olive Marinated Manchego Sandwich
The menu also features a range of juices that pay homage to the man himself such as Mae West (strawberries, red grapes and watermelon) or Dance of Time (apple, white grapes, fresh coriander, watercress or rocket and lemon juice).
The cafe is part of a major programme of improvements and events planned by the Dali Universe’s new Managing Director, Ray Duhaney.
Duhaney, who also helped mastermind the development of the new look Ronnie Scott’s, said: “We wanted to create a haven – a place where visitors could relax in gorgeous surroundings and enjoy everything from a delicious snack to a proper meal. It is a real extension of the whole Dali Universe experience, and we are delighted with the result.”
At the age of six Dali announced he wanted to become a chef, and in later life he produced his own cookbook, Les Diners de Gala. In a delicious metaphor, Dali even likened the work of his imagination to frying up the “mushrooms, the chops and the sardines of my thoughts”.
