Pret slices prices of its best-selling sandwiches
The sandwich chain has slashed the price of its most popular sandwiches and baguette, with prices having decreased by 12% on average and one product now being sold for a £1 cheaper, marking a 25% price reduction.
Products receiving the price cuts are its pole and line caught tuna baguette, posh cheddar baguette, jambon beurre, egg mayo sandwich, tuna and cucumber sandwich, and cheese toastie.
Prices can still differ depending on the location of the site and whether a customer chooses to eat in - which adds 20% VAT - or take away, but the price of a tuna baguette has fallen from £4.25 to £3.99; the jambon beurre is now £3.50 down from £3.75; an egg mayo sandwich is £2.99 rather than £3.40; the tuna and cucumber sandwich has fallen from £3.55 to £2.99; and the cheese toastie has gone from £5.65 to £4.99.
The biggest price drop was for its posh cheddar baguette, which now sells for £3.99 rather than £4.99.
The price cuts seem to be in response to negative stories about Pret in the press last year with several newspapers accusing the chain of raising the prices of its items.
Pret’s posh cheddar and pickle baguette was found to have been selling for £7.15 at High Street Kensington tube station. However, the company said that this was partly due to the travel hub location where prices are typically higher due to increased operational costs and subject to the dine-in VAT as well.
“We’ve been looking at opportunities to bring down our prices where possible. Earlier this year, we reduced the prices on six of our freshly made bestselling sandwiches and baguettes by over 10% on average,” says Clare Clough, Pret’s UK & Ireland managing director.
“Our Club Pret subscribers would also receive an additional 20% off these products, as well as across our entire menu.”
