Highland hotel Boath House on Scotland’s northern coast has closed less than three years on from it being acquired by the Cabin Studio group.

In an email sent to customers and seen by The Scotsman, the Boath House team confirmed that the hotel and its restaurants ceased trading yesterday (23 January).

All bookings have been cancelled and the website states that the hotel and dining room are closed until further notice.

According to The Scotsman, Begbies Traynor has been appointed as liquidator of the company due to its ‘financial position’.

Boath House, which is located near the rural town of Nairn, was acquired by Cabin Studio, the group owned by artist and restaurateur Jonny Gent and architect Russell Potter that’s also behind popular London restaurant Sessions Arts Club, in April 2022.

Billed as ‘a sanctuary for creatives’, Boath House featured nine ensuite rooms with further accommodation located within the grounds of the Grade A-listed Georgian mansion.

The hotel housed two restaurants: the high-end Dining Room, which served a choice of set and tasting menus inspired by ingredients cultivated from Boath House’s 35-acre walled garden; and the more casual Garden Café, which served a menu of wood-fired pizzas and sharing plates.

Speaking to Restaurant in the summer of 2022, Gent discussed the challenges of getting Boath House’s two restaurant spaces ‘right’.

“The hardest thing has been working out how we make the restaurants accessible to a broader audience, while remaining true to our ethos and aesthetic,” he said at the time.

Restaurant has contacted Cabin Studio for comment regarding the closure.
