Hubei and Cantonese restaurant 3 Gorges to open in London

Sanxia Renjia founder Li Zhang is opening a Hubei and Cantonese restaurant in central London later this month.

Called 3 Gorges, the 80-cover venue will be set over three floors on Goodge Street, featuring a ground floor bar and restaurant, a selection of lower ground floor private dining rooms, and a continuation of the restaurant on the first floor.

The kitchen will be led by Cantonese chef Qian, who was recently head chef at Gouqi in London’s Chinatown, one of the few Chinese restaurants in the UK to hold a Michelin Star. His previous roles include head chef at Sino in Virginia Water, and development chef for Hai Di Lao Group, and he was also part of the launch team of MiMi Mayfair.

Prior to that Qian spent 10 years at Hakkasan Group.

Dishes on 3 Gorges’ launch menu will include smaller plates such as three coloured xiaolongbao; braised seafood soup; a dim sum trilogy; mousse scallops; crispy fried oysters; miso spicy east wind snails; peach gum duck soup; and chrysanthemum aubergine alongside larger dishes of eight treasure gourd duck; spicy beef shank; charcoal grilled spicy stuffed meat; Beijing Peking duck; fragrant dongpo pork; and spicy crispy noodles with king prawns.

Luxury dishes featuring abalone, lobster, starfish and the signature three ways of eating geoduck can be ordered in advance and there will also be a luxury set menu featuring wine sauce Spanish red prawns; Budda Jump Over the Wall; cheese lobster and black truffle king crab noodles; and caviar Peking Beijing duck.

Sharing menus will be priced from £69 for nine courses, £89 for 12 courses, and £189 for 12 courses with a luxury main course added. The Luxury Set menu will be priced at £388 for 12 courses.

Zhang operates Sanxia Renjia Sichuan inspired restaurants in Fitzrovia, Bromley and Kingston.

3 Gorges will open mid February.
