Further details have been released about One Club Row, the Shoreditch restaurant led by chef Patrick Powell that will open above revived London pub The Knave of Clubs next month.

The first floor dining room will be an entirely separate space to the pub below, with its own dedicated private entrance at the rear of the building.

It was reported last month that Powell, formerly of The Midland Grand Dining Room and Allegra, had joined forces with The Camberwell Arms co-owner James Dye and former JKS Restaurants director of strategic projects Benjy Leibowitz to relaunch The Knave of Clubs.

Set to open later this month, The Knave of Clubs is being billed as a proper pub ‘where guests can come for pints and crisps, or stay for a relaxed lunch or dinner’.

Centred around a custom rotisserie grill, the menu will be inspired both by French markets and the tradition of Sunday lunch on this side of the Channel.

In contrast, One Club Row is described as a ‘tribute to the best of New York hospitality’ with Leibowitz returning to his early roots as a Maître D’ in the Big Apple by leading the restaurant’s front of house operation.

“After a decade in New York, I’m so looking forward to working alongside our team on the floor and at the door, with a focus on guest experience and hospitality at the core of everything we do,” he says.

As with the offering at The Knave of Clubs, Powell has created One Club Row’s menu with head chef Attila Gellen, whom he worked alongside at Allegra.

Billed as being ‘rooted in simple, timeless classics, underpinned by the best seasonal UK produce’, the menu will feature small snacks and starters of pickled jalapeno gougères; lobster and country ham croquettes; fresh tuna crudo with tomato, tonnato sauce and pickled celery; and steak tartare.

Mains will include the One Club Row burger au poivre; roasted cod with buckwheat polenta and girolles; and pappardelle with kale, chanterelles and lemon.

There will also be big centrepiece sharing dishes for the table such as whole lobster tagliatelle; and bone-in ribeye with chipotle hollandaise.

To finish, there’s New York-style cheesecake; twice-baked chocolate cake with crème fraiche; and Dutch baby pancakes, baked to order.

From the bar, classic cocktails and Champagne will headline alongside a selection of vermouths to start with and amaros to finish. From the cellar, there’s an old-world focus with a rotating by-the-glass offering.

One Club Row will also host regular live music with a house pianist playing every weekend and monthly late shows featuring guest singers and musicians from the new wave UK jazz scene.

The room will seat 45 people, with a further 10 seats at the bar that will be kept for walk-ins.

Above the restaurant there will be a series of private event spaces able to hold between 12 and 60 guests.

The Knave of Clubs is the first project from High Note Hospitality, a new group founded by Dye and Leibowitz.

The pair say they are planning to launch ‘several’ multi-concept venues in remarkable buildings across London in the next few years.
