Cochran, who left his role as executive chef at The Brave after just four months, will be one of the first on the roster at Kitchen No. 8, a new rotating chef concept that will open within Boxhall City when it launches later this month.
Ms Joyce K, star of Channel 4’s Five Star Chef: Britain’s Next Great Chef, will be the first to take over Kitchen No. 8, serving a menu of Congolese-inspired dishes.
Cochran will take over later in the year, serving a fusion menu of British and Caribbean cuisine.
“Throughout my career, I’ve championed bold flavours, diverse cuisines and, above all, creativity in cooking,” says Cochran, who previously ran Islington restaurant 12:51.
“This opportunity at Kitchen No. 8 in Boxhall City will allow me to really get into a creative groove and test new dishes in such a beautiful and food-focused space, surrounded by a mix of global cuisines.”
Boxhall is an offshoot of the Boxpark concept that’s designed as a smaller F&B-focused destination.
The inaugural City site within the historic Metropolitan Arcade building close to Liverpool Street station will house 13 traders including Gaucho Go, a new QSR concept from the steakhouse group; Baked Bird, which will open its first physical location at the food hall; independent bakery Sourdough Sophia; Burger & Beyond; and Egg Slut.
Further chefs set to take up residence at Kitchen No. 8 will be announced in due course.
“Announcing the first two chefs that will take residence at Kitchen No. 8 marks a huge milestone for us,” says Matt Snell, CEO of Boxpark.
“From day one, our goal for Boxhall City has been to collaborate with some of the world’s most exceptional culinary talents, and with James Cochran and Ms Joyce K on board, we’re one step closer to making that vision a reality.
“Their involvement sets a high standard for the chefs-in-residence we’ll continue to welcome throughout the year, firmly establishing Boxhall City as a standout addition to London’s vibrant food scene.”
Boxhall City will open on 10 April.
