Writing in its latest accounts on Companies House, the French-based Italian restaurant group said its five-strong London estate, which includes Gloria in Shoreditch, Ave Mario in Covent Garden and Carlotta in Marylebone, had ‘all performed strongly in excess of expectations, driven by strong customer feedback and brand awareness’.
The group also opened its first regional site over the year, La Bellezza in Birmingham, which launched in November 2024.
Pre-tax profits for the year stood at £2m, down from £3.7m 2023, however, the group’s gross profit margin rose from 72% to 74% over the period.
It comes as Big Mamma prepares to further grow its estate with two new restaurants confirmed and additional ones mooted.
Earlier this week the group confirmed that its next London restaurant will open in Canary Wharf in June.
Barbarella will be housed within the YY Building and is billed as an ode to ‘the golden age of 70s Roman cinema’ with a design of ‘sexy vintage Ferragamo silks and glitzy details’ and a menu that’ll feature pasta dishes including a ‘one-metre long spaghettone’.
The group is also reported to be eyeing a site in the City.
Alongside the growth of its London estate, Big Mamma is also expanding its reach both nationally and internationally.
It comes after private equity company McWin took a majority stake in the business back in 2023.
This summer the group will make its Manchester debut with the opening of its second Circolo Popolare restaurant in the UK, marking the first time it has replicated one of its brands on these shores since arriving in 2019.
Additionally, it is looking to open a restaurant in the US with the state of Florida the current front runner.
Big Mamma’s estate currently encompasses 28 restaurants in total located across mainland Europe.
