Chef Jimmy Lee is to relaunch the Glasgow site of his Hong Kong street food concept Salt & Chilli Oriental under his modern Asian restaurant brand Lychee Oriental.

Opening today (30 April), Lychee Oriental Southside takes over the restaurant on Kilmarnock Road that Lee launched as his original Salt & Chilli Oriental site back in 2021 and will serve a menu of Chinese, Thai and Japanese dishes.

Lee, who has built a strong following on TikTok in recent years for his ongoing series of 60-second recipes, opened the original Lychee Oriental in Glasgow’s city centre in 2015.

“Lychee Oriental is more than just a restaurant; it’s a celebration of the diverse cultures and flavours that inspire me,” he says.

“I want to create a dining experience that brings people together and allows them to explore a range of tastes in a warm and inviting atmosphere.

“With the opening of our second Glasgow location in Shawlands, Lychee Oriental continues to grow in my home city.”

The refurbished Southside restaurant will mirror the design of Lychee Oriental’s Glasgow City location and serve a replica menu that will include the likes of pulled aromatic duck; crispy monkfish; stir-fried beef and black bean sauce; and twice-cooked pork belly.

Lee launched Salt & Chilli Oriental in 2021 with sites in Glasgow and Edinburgh, and followed it in 2022 with an outpost in his hometown of Hamilton.

The site in Hamilton is listed on Google as ‘temporarily closed’, meaning the brand’s Edinburgh location, housed within the Bonnie and Wild Marketplace in the city’s St James Quarter, is the only one currently trading.
