Founders Elliott Kaye and Richie Hayes confirmed in an Instagram post that Norman’s last service will be on Sunday 8 June with the cafe operating a walk ins-only policy up to its closure.
“After five great years of Norman’s Cafe we have made the very tough decision to close our location in north London,” said the pair, who launched Norman’s back in 2020.
“We would like to thank all of our customers and regulars who have dined with us and have shown the cafe support since we have opened.
“To all our amazing staff past and present, thank you for all your hard work.
“We are both excited to progress and develop with what we have started at Norman’s through other avenues and look forward to hopefully seeing some of you again soon.”
Norman’s built a popular reputation within the industry for its menu of classic British comfort dishes – such as beans on toast; ham, eggs and chips; and chicken nuggets with chips and beans – created using high-quality ingredients from suppliers including JC Walker and Clarence Court.
In an interview with Esquire back in 2023, Kitchen Table chef patron James Knappet described Norman’s as his ‘ideal restaurant’.
However, the cafe also had its detractors.
In an interview for social media-based food and travel show Topjaw last year, The Standard restaurant critic David Ellis chose Norman’s as the ‘most overrated spot in London’.
“I absolutely hate pretend working class culture,” he said.
“So the idea of this fake cafe just does not appeal to me at all.”
