Billed as combining British pub culture and Cantonese cuisine, the new site will feature a 185-seat, open-plan restaurant featuring an open kitchen and a raised bar area.
The original Duck and Rice was launched by Wagamama founder Alan Yau in 2015 on the former site of The Endurance pub, but has since been taken on by new management, which is leading this new opening.
Plans for The Duck & Rice Battersea were first revealed back in January.
The new menu will include hero dishes of Cantonese house roast duck; pork and prawn shumai; curry soft shell crab; sweet and sour pork with rice; and vegetable katsu curry with rice.
Overseen by interior architecture and design studio Macaulay Sinclair, the pub’s look will take inspiration from the aesthetic and atmosphere of the cha chaan teng tea houses of Hong Kong.
When discussing the design earlier this year, Ian Roome, director at Macaulay Sinclair, said: “The much-loved Cha Chaan Teng are an integral part of South China’s culture stemming back to the early 1950s.
“Our British pubs and cafes hold a similar connection to our societal past. There is evidence that these Western influences crossed paths with the traditional teahouses, and this is what has inspired our design approach.”
