London-based chef Jamie Allan is to lead the relaunch of The Macbeth pub in Hoxton next month under a new concept inspired by the tascas of Portugal.

Allan, who is best known for previously being part of the core team behind The Plimsoll in Finsbury Park, has joined forces with close friend Patrick Nolan to take over the pub, which has been a fixture on Hoxton Street since the mid-1800s.

“Having been brought up in Hackney, it’s a beautiful opportunity to work in a part of London that feels very close to my heart,” says Allan.

Nolan will oversee the front of house at The Macbeth, while Allan will manage the kitchen.

The concept is described as having a ‘distinctly European flair’ with drinks being served until late and seating times available until 11pm.

Menu staples will include morcela fina; chicken samosas; snail rice; and pork and cheese rolls.

This will be served alongside a selection of lagers and other drinks.

The pub’s refurbishment will strip back to some of its original features including a 19th century tiled mural, which is being brought to the forefront.

It will also see the installation of an English oak bar.
