Wagamama has made its debut in India with a restaurant within the Cambata Building in Mumbai.

The opening, the first of many planned in the country, is being led by K Hospitality Corp, one of the country’s biggest F&B operators.

A further outpost in Delhi NCR is also mooted, with more cities to follow in due course.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with K Hospitality to bring Wagamama to India,” says Francisco Neves, senior VP of franchise and partnerships at Wagamama.

“Mumbai is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city with a world-class food culture; an ideal first step for our journey in the region.”

Last year it was reported that Wagamama was to make its debut in India within Mumbai Airport’s International Terminal under a partnership with Travel Food Services (TFS), with plans for further expansion in transport hubs across the country.

However, those plans do not appear to have come to fruition at this time.

Wagamama was originally founded in 1992 by Alan Yau and is now owned by The Restaurant Group (TRG).

The pan-Asian casual dining chain currently operates from over 160 restaurants in the UK as well as 50 sites across continental Europe and the Middle East and seven locations in the US.

In June this year, Thomas Heier stepped down as CEO of Wagamama after four years leading the brand.

He was replaced by Mark Chambers, who is also CFO of TRG.
