The group confirmed in an Instagram post that its restaurant, which opened in May 2024, had closed ‘for now’.
“A big change at SMSH BN,” the post reads.
“We’re saying goodbye (for now) to our Charing Cross store — but this isn’t the end, just a new beginning.”
As well as being ‘actively on the hunt’ for a new bricks and mortar site, the group is preparing to launch dark kitchen locations in the capital that will be available across multiple delivery channels.
“Thanks for all the love at Charing Cross — we’re just getting started,” the post continues.
“Stay tuned and stay hungry.”
SMSH BN billed itself as ‘redefining the classic smash burger experience with a modern twist and touch of elegance’ when it launched last year.
The concept, which serves a tight menu of US-style smash burgers made using wagyu beef patties, is the brainchild of South Africa-born chef Mark Morrans, whose previous roles include group head chef at Scott Hallsworth’s Kurobuta and executive chef at Inca London and Mistress of Mayfair.
London’s smash burger market is continuing to sizzle with many players plotting expansion across the capital.
They include social media sensation Supernova, which has just launched a second London site in South Kensington and is planning a third in Mayfair.
There is also Parisian import Junk, which launched in Soho last October and is preparing to open a second site in Marylebone.
