Housed next door to the recently-launched Singburi at the Montacute Yards development in London’s Shoreditch, Nieves Barragán Mohacho’s new restaurant, Legado, will open on 28 August. Marking the Spanish chef’s second in partnership with JKS Restaurants Legado, meaning ‘legacy’, will see Barragán Mohacho move beyond her familiar Spanish cooking at her Mayfair restaurant Sabor, allowing the wider ingredients, lesser-known dishes, and regional culinary traditions of Spain to take centre stage. The restaurant will have space for 60 covers in the dining room and an additional 16 at the counter. It will also have a dedicated bar and outdoor terrace open all day serving tapas and pintxos called the Taberna.

The first venue under Tommy Banks’s new pub group Jeopardy Hospitality will open later this month. The General Tarleton pub with rooms in north Yorkshire will officially reopen its doors on 29 August following months of restoration to the 18th-century former coaching inn. Located in the village of Ferrensby, just outside Harrogate, the newly restored building will reopen as an eight-bedroom pub with a private dining space, large bar and beer garden. The food will be overseen by executive chef Aled Williams, who was previously head chef at Michelin-starred Northcote in Lancashire, and is said to be ‘rooted in hearty British pub classics’. Sam Orbaum, originally from Yorkshire, has joined the group as general manager and will be charged with leading The General Tarleton’s front-of-house operations, as well as further Jeopardy Hospitality ventures.

London’s smash burger sector shows no signs of slowing with Parisian import Junk opening a second site in the capital this month, in Marylebone. A larger site than the original with 40 covers in total, the new Junk will open on St Christopher’s Place, serving up the same minimalist menu centred on the classic smash burger. Options will range from two to five patties of the classic cheeseburger served with American cheese and house made Junk sauce, the truffle double cheeseburger with house fried onions and homemade truffle sauce, and the crispy veggie burger.

KERB is dipping its toes into the pub scene with the launch of an American sports bar concept. The street food collective has opened KERB Social Club today (1 August), a retro-style bar in London’s Old Spitalfields Market. Billed as ‘American sports bar energy meets proper pub comfort, fused with an inclusive community buzz’, the design taps into classic sports nostalgia with bold colours, retro-inspired furniture and vintage memorabilia. The concept, meanwhile, has a strong community element and leans heavily into the entertainment side of things. In addition to the main clubroom and terrace that overlooks Old Spitalfields Market, KERB Social Club has five large private rooms where it will host hosting Super Bowl parties and which feature games consoles, 100-inch TV screens, karaoke booths, pool tables, and darts. Food comes courtesy of three of KERB’s staple street food traders - fried chicken from Only Jerkin’; hot dogs from Oh My Dog; and Detroit-style pizza from Cutie Pies.
