Chris Denney has left Chelsea restaurant Fantômas having helped launch it at the end of 2024.

Fantômas opened in November 2024 as a partnership between Denney and George Bukhov-Weinstein and Ilya Demichev, the due behind restaurants including Goodman, Beast, Wild Tavern, Belvedere, and Lita.

The restaurant is currently closed as of 3 August but will reopen in the autumn ‘reimagined and ready for a new chapter’ although no details have been released on what form this will take in terms of name, décor or style of menu.

Fantômas takes its name from a fictional criminal and master of disguise created by French writers Marcel Allain and Pierre Souvestre in 1911 serving a menu of modern European food ‘with an eye on Asia’.

Dishes included sourdough focaccia with chicken liver parfait and cornichons; BBQ lamb breast with sheep’s yoghurt and mint; crispy veal sweetbreads with a bulgogi sauce and sour cabbage; and a beef fillet with peppercorn sauce, Roscoff onions, and a suet dumpling.

Denney’s previous projects have included Notting Hill restaurants 108 Garage and Fiend as well as a residency at Golborne Road restaurant Caia.
