NWTC reports positive trading and announces brand refresh

New World Trading Company (NWTC) has promoted Amber Wood from managing director to CEO.

The appointment comes as the Graphite Capital-backed group, which operates 27 UK sites primarily under The Botanist brand, says it ‘continues to deliver strong momentum’ with like-for-like sales growing 7.4% in the 17 weeks ending 27 July 2025.

Woods appointment follows a restructuring of the business last year that saw NWTC close three sites amid a downturn in trade at its smaller and non-Botanist branded bars that was attributed to factors including inflation and the cost-of-living crisis.

“I am absolutely thrilled with the progress the business has made,” says Wood.

“The renewed energy across our brands and operations is down to the incredible hard work and dedication of our brilliant teams, and the response from guests has been fantastic.”

NWTC says its performance has been underpinned by a renewed focus on The Botanist brand alongside a new food menu, drinks range and service offer.

A new flagship Botanist site in Bournemouth has ‘exceeded expectations’, delivering cumulative sales of £1.6m since launching in May.

In Sheffield, meanwhile, the conversion of a site that previously traded as The Furnace to The Botanist has driven an 80% uplift in sales versus the same period prior to conversion.

“With the Botanist refresh, new openings and new offer we have built real momentum,” Wood continues.

“I am very excited to be leading the team into our next phase of evolution.”

Wood’s appointment is one of two changes announced to NWTC’s senior team.

The group has also brought in former Enterprise Inns group financial controller Jon Hire as its new CFO, replacing Glenn Pearson, who stood down from the position in August.

“I’m joining the business at a pivotal time, with transformation well underway, and I’m looking forward to working closely with the team to help steer the next phase of growth,” says Hire.
