Anthony Lyon has announced that his highly regarded ‘nose to fin’ seafood restaurant in London’s Crouch End is to close its doors early next month after six years trading.

In a statement posted to Instagram it was confirmed that Lyon’s Seafood Restaurant & Wine Bar would hold its final service on Saturday 4 October.

“It’s with mixed emotions that we call time on Lyon’s Crouch End,” Lyon said.

“Six years ago, we opened the doors to our Park Road home; what a journey and whirlwind it’s been.

“We have experienced so many incredible moments and pushed through a fair few storms along the way, but always with perseverance, passion and dedication to the business and all the people who have come through our door.

“We have poured everything we have into Lyon’s and couldn’t be prouder of what we have achieved during our time here.

“It is now time for a change and the next chapter.”

Lyon moved from South Africa to the UK more than 20 years ago and previously held top front of house roles within some of London’s best known and busiest restaurants including HIX Soho, Roka Charlotte Street and The Wolseley.

He launched Lyon’s Seafood Restaurant & Wine Bar to considerable acclaim in late 2019.

In 2020, The Observer’s then food critic, Jay Rayner, described it as an ‘intriguing’ restaurant that was ‘well worth the trip to Crouch End’.

Thanking his customers, staff and suppliers for the past six years, Lyon hinted that he does plan to relaunch the restaurant in some form in the future.

“Now we’re ready for the next phase both personally and professionally,” he continued.

“We will be taking a much-needed break to reset and recharge, and once we are back we will decide what the next chapter of Lyon’s looks like.

“This is certainly not goodbye more see you soon.”

Lyon also previously owned Hackney Coterie, which he launched with former Adam Handling Group sommelier Kelvin McCabe in 2021.

Hackney Coterie closed its doors permanently in October 2023.
