The team behind popular London pubs The Pelican, The Hero and The Fat Badger as well as The Bull in Charlbury in the Cotswolds is adding to its portfolio with a new London opening.

This October, Public House Group will open The Hart in Marylebone, located on the corner of Chiltern Street and Blandford Street.

Taking its name from the Hart family, who ran an establishment on the site in the 1840s, The Hart promises to offer a classic British pub experience with a food-led focus, celebrating British farmers, producers and seasonal ingredients from the group’s Market Garden at Bruern Farms.

It will have a drinks-focused ground floor area featuring Victorian-style partition screens, stool seating, booths and original stained-glass windows where a snack menu of items including pork scratchings, chicken liver toast, and pork pies will be served.

Upstairs will lead to two floors of dining rooms with hand-aged panelling, scalloped banquettes, bespoke lighting and gas fires serving a menu that celebrates nostalgic British dishes such as crab cakes; bubble & squeak; steak and potatoes; meatballs and chard (pictured); chicken and anchovy salad; and banoffee pie.

The same menu will be served across all floors.

The Public House Group was founded by three friends Phil Winser, James Gummer and Olivier van Themsche with the successful opening of The Pelican in Notting Hill in 2022. The group’s expansion has focused on West London and the Cotswolds, with subsequent openings of The Bull in Charlbury in the Cotswolds in July 2023, The Hero in Maida Vale in May 2024, and The Fat Badger on Golborne Road in early 2025.

“We’re excited to be opening in Marylebone this month and look forward to getting to know our new neighbours,” says Gummer.

“The Hart is different from our previous venues as we’re surrounded by offices. We will continue to serve classics using quality British produce, but you will also find some lighter options on the menu for the lunchtime crowd – from soups and salads to tarts and kedgeree.”
