The brand’s sites in Liverpool Street, Coal Drops Yard and at Market Halls in Canary Wharf have closed, with Hornigold blaming rising inflation and spiralling costs.
Writing on Instagram he says: “You’ve probably noticed we’ve been a little quieter than usual. The truth is, with rising inflation, changes to NI, and product costs spiralling, the past few months have been incredibly tough.
“Like so many small independents across the UK hospitality industry, we’ve felt the impact hard.“You may have seen that we made the difficult decision to close all Longboys sites in the hope of reopening. Sadly, we won’t be able to bring them back.”
Pastry chef Hornigold founded Longboys, which serves a product that is a hybrid of a doughnut and an éclair alongside soft-serve ice cream, coffee and luxury hot chocolate, in 2019. At its height it operated from four locations.
Earlier this year he opened a concession within Market Halls Canary Wharf, saying that 2025 would be ‘a pivotal year’ for the company.
Announcing the closures, Hornigold also says it “isn’t the end - it’s a redirection” and that the team will “dust ourselves off and go again”.
Hornigold, who is a former Hakkasan Group head pastry chef, was the subject of Netflix documentary Con Mum that aired earlier this year.
