Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) returned to profit in 2024, according to its latest financial results.

The burger brand, which is owned by Boparan Restaurant Group, which also operates the Slim Chickens and Carl’s Jnr brands in the UK, reported that it had achieved a pre-tax profit of £4.8m for the 52-week period ended 29 December 2024, up from a pre-tax loss of £4.7m in 2023.

The business also saw turnover rise from £96.2m to £124.9m during the same period.

It says the acquisitions in the year 2023 resulted in an increase in sales of £19 and hat sales generated from Slim Chickens sites opened in 2024 were £6.5m, while like-for-like sales increased by 4%.

In a statement filed at Companies House the business cited pricing increases on key commodities and food prices, rising property costs and energy prices, and the recruitment and retention of staff as it principal risks and uncertainties and said that inflation has emerged as a ‘significant economic issue’ and was set to rise via higher fuel costs coupled with increases in National Insurance.

“Management will continue to monitor and assess the impact of these matters and take appropriate steps to mitigate their impact on the cost base of the company,” it said.

It was announced today (30 September) that GBK is to sell 12 of its restaurants to rival Honest Burgers.
