Lara Boglione of Petersham Nurseries and her husband Giovanni Mazzei are opening an Italian restaurant in Notting Hill this autumn.

Located on Westbourne Grove in, Trogolo is described as a contemporary trattoria and bar inspired by the spirit of Florence.

Meaning ‘trough’ in Italian, the restaurant’s name is inspired by the stone basins found in farmyards across Tuscany and which symbolised the heart of rural life.

It will serve an ingredient-led, seasonally changing menu that will include dishes such as 24-month aged cinta senese, crisp fritto of sage leaves and anchovies; handmade tagliolini with white truffle; pollo al burro - chicken roasted in butter; and arista con l’osso - a Tuscan bone-in pork loin with peperoncino.

The wine list will have a strong Tuscan focus featuring around 350 bottles.

The restaurant will be spread across two floors with Trogolo’s dining room celebrating conviviality and simplicity with a stripped-back decor and long sharing tables for communal dining as well as marble-topped tables for two. There will also be a bar area to the rear of the restaurant and a secluded outdoor courtyard.

“The Tuscan spirit is warm and effusive. We’re bringing this hearty sense of hospitality to Trogolo, a place that captures the feel of Florence, where the chatter of guests at noisy trattorias and wine bars spills out onto the streets and into the night,” says Boglione.

“We can’t wait to open the doors, pour our favourite wines and share the simple dishes we love with friends, neighbours and new faces alike.”
