Ramen master and Chef’s Table star Ivan Orkin will open his first permanent London restaurant next month.

On the Clerkenwell end of Farringdon Road, the project follows Ivan Ramen pop-ups in Brighton and London in 2023.

As with his previous projects on these shores, the chef will be working with UK food brand growth platform Sessions with all menu items available via delivery platforms as well as to eat in.

Key dishes at the “intimate” 26-seater restaurant include tonkotsu; chicken paitan; spicy miso ramen; and kara-age chicken.

There will also be some new creations inspired by London, including a salt beef bao with pickled cucumbers and karashi mustard mayo.

“Tokyo, New York… and now London! What an incredible honour to share our food in three of the world’s most iconic cities,” Orkin says. “London isn’t just a world-class restaurant destination. It is home to one of the most exciting ramen scenes anywhere. I’ve always loved this city, and I’m beyond thrilled to finally be a part of it.”

Dan Warne, chief executive officer and founder of Sessions, says: “Bringing Ivan Ramen to the UK is a milestone for Sessions. Showcasing Ivan’s globally acclaimed ramen alongside our growing portfolio of original brands reinforces our commitment to delivering world-class food to new audiences.”

Originally from Long Island, Orkin’s two original ramen shops in Tokyo were critically well-received and traded for nearly 10 years.

He returned to New York in 2011 to open two Ivan Ramen sites. The group’s Hell’s Kitchen site closed in November 2020 due to the pandemic.

In 2017, Orkin was featured on Netflix Chef’s Table series, cementing his reputation as one of the US’s foremost authorities on ramen and Japanese food more generally.
