The restaurateur behind renowned Turkish fine dining restaurant The Mantl in Knightsbridge is opening an ambitious three-storey venture in Mayfair.

Serdar Demir will open Chargal in December, bringing fire-led Turkish cuisine and a night life venue to Berkeley Street.

Chargal is said to blend Turkish heritage with refined Mediterranean flair to transform London’s perception of modern Turkish dining. Described as a three-part concept — mezze, dining, and lounge - the venue offers an experience that shifts with the evening to become a night life destination.

Located on the former Jeru site, it will have a ground-floor mezze level as well as a first-floor dining space and a basement lounge for after dinner drinks.

Chargal’s menu will centre on open-fire cooking with Turkish ingredients and flavours served with the more contemporary presentation of European dining. Dishes will include refined interpretations of Turkish classics, including the restaurant’s signature wagyu iskender — a reimagining of a national favourite dish made with wagyu beef; grilled halloumi doughnuts; and kuru cacık, a modern interpretation of the traditional Turkish yoghurt-cucumber dish.

“It’s almost my interpretation of Turkish cuisine reflecting my journey of being Turkish-born and raised between two cultures in the UK, combining the authenticity of traditional Turkish flavours with the contemporary presentation and refinement of European dining,” says Demir.

Demir opened The Mantl on Brompton Road in 2019, and it was ranked by Time Out as London’s number one Turkish restaurant in 2024.
