Announcing the news on social media, the pair say that the economic environment is too tough to operate the restaurant.
“It’s with a heavy heart that we announce Sesta will not be reopening in the new year. While we’ve loved every minute of bringing this little restaurant to life, sadly times are just too hard to make ends meet,” the pair say.
“We’re so proud of the space we’ve created and the brilliant team that have worked tirelessly to make it happen. We’re grateful for all the laughs and good times we’ve had along the way, the plates served and glasses clinked.”
The pair opened their neighbourhood restaurant on the former Pidgin site in September last year serving a menu championing British seasonal ingredients’. It was their first restaurant together, having previously worked with each other at Brunswick House.
The 26-cover restaurant takes its name from an old English word for a large vessel of wine and, according to tradition, nobody is allowed to leave the table until the sesta is finished.
It is known for its fun and creative food and drinks offer and its intimate but lively neighbourhood vibe.
The restaurant’s final service will be Saturday 20 December.
