The chef, who runs The Kentish Hare gastropub in Bidborough, Kent, alongside his brother Chris, shattered his pelvis in three places in the accident last week.
In a social media post, Chris Tanner revealed that James had been involved in an accident and thanked staff at Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital for the care that his brother is receiving.
“It just puts into perspective how fragile life can be,” he says in the post. “As you can imagine, especially for James it’s just been absolutely devastating. We’re all just drained from this week and the events and what’s happening.”
James was due to cook alongside his brother at a special meal at Atul Kochhar’s Indian restaurant Kanishka on 5 November. Despite his absence, the meal will continue to go ahead with The Kentish Hare head chef David Boswell joining Chris and general manager Paul Barber at the event.
The Tanner brothers opened The Kentish Hare in May 2014 and the pub was voted best newcomer of the year n the Estrella Damm Top 50 gastropubs list in 2016.
