Gail’s to open 40 new sites in 2026

The owners of Gail’s have hired bankers to handle a sale that could value the premium bakery chain by as much as £500m

Gail’s says it plans to open 40 new sites next year, as it reported a growth in revenue for 2025.

The bakery chain opened 36 new bakeries during the year to 28 February 2025, including its first in the south west of England, with a plan to continue wider national growth in the year ahead.

The business will look to open a similar number of sites each years in the short term and grow its footprint within the UK.

Gail’s reports revenue growth of 22% to £220m in 2025 for the period although operating margin and gross profit margin both fell slightly due to increased staff and utilities costs. Group sales including wholesale were £278m, up from £231m the previous year.

EBITDA grew by 20% to £51m, up from £43m but losses increased to £10.3m, up from £4m the previous year.

The group says that its retail bakery business continues to be its fastest growing and more profitable part.
