Taking up residence as a part of Lewisham shopping centre’s redevelopment, Model Market is looking particularly for local vendors to reinforce the market’s community roots and celebrate south London creativity.
The revived Model Market will also offer entertainment including DJ sets and music alongside a range of events, pop-ups and cultural programming.
The space will take inspiration from the 1950’s style of the original site, which closed in 2019, using retro shopfronts, string lights and its familiar gritty-meets-artsy feel.
The developer for Lewisham Shopping Centre, Landsec, opted for a phased redevelopment plan, retaining key parts of the shopping centre to minimise disruption for the local residents.
Alongside a permanent home for Lewisham’s Model Market, proposals also include plans for more than 1,700 new homes, 660 student beds and 445 co-living residencies.
“Model Market was a much-loved destination that still holds a special place in the hearts of the community,” says Paul Redden, centre director at Lewisham Shopping Centre.
“Its revival marks an important moment for the town centre – one that not only celebrates our heritage, but embraces new opportunities for culture, food and the community.
“Model Market will bring its unique vibrancy to Lewisham once more and it’s an honour to be supporting this initiative and create a space where local businesses can thrive and the community can connect in meaningful, memorable ways.”
A spokesperson for Model Market adds: “We’re incredibly excited to revive the Model Market at Lewisham and give it a fresh new chapter.
“We want to champion local talent, and whether you’re running a kitchen concept, a small shop, or planning community events, we’d love to hear from brands who want to help shape Lewisham’s next great social space.”
Businesses can apply up until 1 March 2026.
