The fried chicken brand is introducing its three-strong Mega Dips range nationwide following a successful trial last month in which it sold 115,000 portions of the dips at selected restaurants.
The dips are bigger portions of Popeyes’ Ranch, Kickback and its festive warm Cheese dips and tap into the trend for customers wanting to submerge an entire tender in sauce before eating it. The launch is described by Popeyes as a UK-first for quick service restaurants.
The trend for super-sized dips was popularised by rival fried chicken brand Raising Cane’s, whose Secret Sauce is famously served in 22-ounce soda cups. Videos of people using the dips have gone viral on social media platforms including Instagram and TikTok and have helped raise the profile of the US-based brand in the UK, despite it not yet having a presence on these shores.
Raising Cane’s will make its UK debut next year, taking on the former Angus Steakhouse restaurant between Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square on Coventry Street.
“We know how much our fans love our huge range of dips, so we’re so excited to give them even more to enjoy with their meal, with the all-new Mega Dips,” says Dave Hoskins, head of food at Popeyes UK.
“And we’ve already seen such a huge reception to the launch - almost 20,000 litres of sauce has been dunked and drizzled over Popeyes orders in the last three weeks,”
“Inspired by the worldwide love for huge dips, we thought it was about time to bring that extra bit of sauce to Popeyes fans in the UK.”
The Mega dips are available priced at £3.99.
