A brand which describes itself as Europe’s first luxury Korean matcha house has made its debut in London.

TOKKIA serves Korean matcha and hojicha - Japanese roasted green tea - as well as a range of traditional Korean pastries.

The brand, which translates as ‘hey bunny’, was founded by Sooji Im and is named as a nod to her rabbit Hazelnut.

Every cup is whisked to order using water kept in bangjja, traditional Korean hand-forged brassware once reserved for royalty, that softens the water naturally. Drinks on the menu include a long matcha, served hot or cold, and the classic matcha latte.

A sparkling matcha and hojicha latte are also available alongside seasonal specials such as a persimmon cinnamon matcha latte and hoji peanut latte.

Accompanying the drinks offer is a selection of traditional Korean saltbreads (sogeum-bbang), served plain or in cream-filled variations such as the matcha cream saltbread, filled with matcha white-chocolate ganache and matcha cream; and the hojicha cream saltbread made with roasted hojicha, chocolate ganache and cream.

Designed by duo Joe Stephenson and Toby Edwards from Stephenson-Edwards, in collaboration with British architect Jack Holloway, TOKKIA has a warm, calm and refined interior, taking inspiration from rabbit folklore in Korean mythology.

“TOKKIA began from a small moment with my bunny, Hazelnut - a reminder of how simple joys can ground us,” says Sooji Im.

“That feeling sits at the heart of Korean matcha, a tradition defined by ease and quiet craftsmanship.

“With TOKKIA, I hope to share that often-overlooked beauty with London and create a space where people can experience its warmth for themselves.”

Matcha consumption has seen a surge in recent years, with strong growth expected to continue.

In 2024 the UK’s matcha tea market was valued at £45.3m and is expected to reach £71.2m by 2030 according to UK Debt Expert.
