In a memo shared to staff, which was subsequently posted on Reddit, the food to go bakery chain said it had to make ‘some small price increases’ amid pressure from rising prices across its supply chain.
According to The Sun, staff speculate various products will rise by 5p or 10p when the increases come into effect on 30 December.
Alongside this the memo confirms the meal deal promotion for a BBQ Bites Meal Box and drink will end, although the BBQ Bites Meal Deal itself is staying on the menu. Hot Shot Pizza is also being discontinued on December 29, and festive products will be sold until January 5.
A Greggs spokesman said: “There will be small price changes to some of our products at the end of December, due to the impact of rising costs and inflation. “We continue to offer our customers great value and high-quality products across the entire range. Many of our customers’ favourites, such as breakfast and sandwich meal deals, will not change.”
Greggs last introduced prices rises in October when its two-part and three-part breakfast deal increased by 20p each to £3.15 and £4.15p, respectively.
Its star biscuit and croissant both rose at the same time from £1.35 to £1.40. At the beginning of the year, the group increased the price of its sausage roll, its most popular menu item, by 5p to £1.30.
Further rises were introduced in May, with the price of its cookies and doughnuts increasing by 5p.
Greggs, which recently launched a new ‘bitesize’ shop format to help grow its footprint within travel hubs, reported a fall in profits in its half-year results back in July.
Total first-half sales for the 26 weeks ended 28 June were up 7%, with company-managed shop sales up 2.6% and franchised shop sales up 4.8% on a like-for-like basis.
Operating profit, however, was down 7.1% for the period to £70.4m, while profit before tax fell 14.3% to £63.5m.
