Japanese handroll bar Temaki is heading to central London following the closure of its Brixton site last year.

Founder AM Dupee will open a site on Mayfair’s Maddox Street next month serving a range of classic Japanese dishes blended with a relaxed Californian approach.

While Temaki takes its name from te (hand) and maki (roll), the menu at the Mayfair restaurant has been expanded beyond handrolls with an emphasis on a broader selection of Japanese small plates designed for sharing, alongside signature temaki.

Dishes will include crispy rice topped with premium cuts of fish; A4 wagyu sliders; and a revolving selection of sandos and toro.

A selection of wines, Japanese saké, and cocktails will complete the offer.

The restaurant will span two levels - upstairs will have an intimate dining room that seats just 16 guests around a counter, while downstairs will be a 28-seat space that takes inspiration from Japan’s listening bars.

Temaki was founded in Brixton’s Market Row in 2021, with Dupee at the time saying he wanted to expand the brand in London and beyond. However, the site closed in August last year with the brand saying it would reopening in a brand new central London location.

“We loved our time in Brixton, and with our new creative team we are so excited to build on that success in central London, on Mayfair’s Maddox Street,” says Dupee.

“We’ve been working on some fun new dishes and will of course serve our signature handrolls - I can’t wait to open the doors.”
