Leon has given the first indication of its new approach to food following co-founder John Vincent’s repurchase of the business.

The healthy fast food chain has introduced four new or updated dishes for January - banana and turmeric honey granola; lentil masala; a salmon Smörgås-Box; and a morello cherry iced matcha latte.

The salmon Smörgås-Box features smoked salmon served with two poached eggs, smashed avocado, and spinach, and finished with extra virgin olive oil and seven-seed mix, while the lentil masala is a ‘refreshed, refined’ version of the classic Leon dish that it says has been ‘given a chef’s touch’.

In November Vincent, who bought Leon back four years after selling it to billionaire brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa, owners of EG Group, said he would transform the menu at the brand.

The biggest changes to the menu are due to come in Spring, but from now until April Leon says it will be welcoming back some of its much-loved dishes so that they are better than ever.

“The journey begins to make Leon what it once was, and what it should always be,” it says.

“More than a menu makeover, this is a full-scale rebirth - reconnecting with the food that made Leon famous while introducing a new wave of bold, creative dishes.

“A celebration of past classics, reimagined for today, and a renewed vision for naturally fast food.

Last year Vincent said the company would also be strengthening its drinks offer, moving away from its Roast Rewards subscription model.

In December Leon entered administration with the view of re-emerging as a leaner business and has begun closing some of its underperforming sites.
