Sandwich Sandwich has pledged to provide free meals to individuals in need, offering to support to anyone at no cost and with no questions asked.

The sandwich chain announced the gesture on Instagram, noting that January can be a particularly challenging month for many individuals. “The thought of someone having to go hungry is deeply upsetting,” it said.

The business revealed that it had previously offered support over the Christmas period, encouraging anyone struggling who had access to one of its stores to get in touch.

A number of people took up the offer, however the company recognised that a 24-hour story was not enough for individuals needing regular support.

Customers looking for support are directed to get in contact via the company’s customer service email, guaranteeing those accessing the scheme will not be questioned about their circumstances and that all visits to the store will be kept private.

“If a couple of sandwiches a day can ease the burden, even in the smallest way imaginable, then I feel like it’s our duty to do so,” the post said.

Joshua Kleiner, head of operations and marketing at the sandwich business, later added in a comment in the Instagram post that he already had more than 100 requests from people offering to help deliver food, paying it forward, donating or even making sandwiches in store.

“I’m blown away at just how incredible you all are,” he said.

Sandwich Sandwich also emphasised that there was no pressure for people to reach out immediately, saying that the offer was not time-limited and that it would remain in place for anyone who needed it.

“This offer of support isn’t going anywhere,” it concluded.

The announcement has been praised on Instagram, receiving thousands of likes and numerous comments commending the gesture.
