Camilla Long has been named as the new restaurant critic for The Sunday Times, taking over from Charlotte Ivers.

Long is an award-winning writer and The Sunday Times columnist who is currently television critic for The Sunday Times. She is no stranger to the restaurant pages, having edited the work of previous restaurant critic AA Gill.

Her first restaurant review will appear in The Sunday Times Magazine on 8 February. Her regular weekly column in the main newspaper continues as normal.

“I’m proud to be taking on what is one of the most important critic roles at the best newspaper in the country,” she says.

“I started my time at The Sunday Times working on the restaurant pages, editing AA Gill. It’s an honour to be back. I look forward to offering an honest and insightful view of a fascinating and ever changing industry.”

Ben Taylor, editor of The Sunday Times, says: “Camilla Long is unique as a writer: piercingly honest, funny and original. She is one of the most distinctive voices at the paper; sharp in her judgement and fearless in her opinions.

“This is the perfect moment for her to be taking on such an exciting new role.”

Long replaces Charlotte Ivers, whose final The Sunday Times restaurant review gave five stars to two-Michelin-starred A Wong in London. Writing in her column, Ivers said: “I worry I now take restaurants for granted. Actually, not the restaurants, rather my presence at them.”

Ives will return to the paper in March after having a break in the Lake District and will begin a new job “where I should be able to write about pretty much everything”.
