Ramen, cocktail and karaoke bar House of Fu has closed its Manchester site after two and a half years of trading.

The restaurant, which ran its last service on 28 February, described the ‘challenging’ economic landscape, saying it was ‘heartbroken’ about the closure.

Writing on Instagram it says: “We’re heartbroken to announce that we’ll be closing House of Fu on Portland Street... It’s been a wild two and a half years. To say the economic landscape has been challenging would be a bit of an understatement, but sometimes a site just doesn’t click.

“You live and hopefully learn.”

House of Fu, which launched in Leeds in 2021, opened the Manchester restaurant in October 2023. Speaking at the time of the launch, founders Simon Stevens and Ashley Kollakowski said: “Manchester is home to some of our favourite restaurants and shops and it’s been great getting to know the city a little more whilst looking for a home for House of Fu.

“There’s such an exciting food scene in Manchester and there seems to be more great openings announced every week, we’re really excited to be part of it.”

The Leeds site remains open.

“We want to say a massive thank you to all our staff. They’ve worked incredibly hard to make sure our customers have had amazing experiences since day one and closing is absolutely no reflection on them. We also want to say thanks to you, our patrons, for choosing to spend your time and money with us,” the post continues.

“We’d also like to thank our landlords, Bruntwood, who’ve been incredibly helpful since we opened, 10/10, would rent again.”
