Chef Thomas Straker has opened his first international restaurant, Straker’s NYC, in New York.

Located in the former home of Keith McNally’s storied Lucky Strike on Grand Street in Manhattan, the restaurant serves dishes familiar to fans of the original London Strakers’, including mussel flatbread with chilli butter; and bluefin tuna belly carpaccio. These are served alongside newer additions for a New York audience with American produce that include red shrimp and foie gras tostada; wood-roasted grouper with salsa verde; and Lucky Lime oysters served on the half shell.

The restaurant has an open kitchen-bar where diners can watch the chefs in action and a more intimate dining room at the rear. The walls feature artwork by Keith Haring, Damien Hirst and Brian Clarke.

“Moving to New York is a massive move for the brand, Straker’s,” says Straker. “It’s something that I’ve thought about for a long time and I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure that this restaurant is a success and people have the best night of their lives when they come and eat with us.”

Timing with the launch, Straker’s two existing restaurants on Golborne Road - Acre, and Straker’s - will introduce large format wines, and seasonal menu changes across both sites with a focus on game and harvest produce.

Straker’s new head of wine Conor Strutt will also introduce a magnum-only wine list this Autumn for group dining, available for larger tables and in a variety of rare vintages.
