Pizza Express offers more discount vouchers than any other restaurant chain, with demand for deals set to reignite as consumers feel the pinch of higher VAT following the budget.

According to restaurant voucher website Crunchlunch, Pizza Express deals make up 33 per cent of the online restaurant voucher market.

Zizzi comes second with 15 per cent of the market, and it is followed by chains such as Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Ask and La Tasca (with 8 per cent between them).

It means Gondola Holdings, owner of Pizza Express, Ask and Zizzi has around half of the entire discount voucher market.

VAT rise to drive discount voucher demand

Crunchlunch founder James Nixon predicted that with a hike in VAT to 20 per cent announced in the emergency budget, the discount market would reignite as cash strapped consumers look to save when eating out.

“It is now more important than ever for restaurants to promote their restaurant deals effectively online, and capture a share of this ever growing market of savvy customers.”

A report by MyVoucherCodes last month found Brits were addicted to restaurant vouchers and showed no sign of giving them up.

Despite this Las Iguanas, the Latin-American restaurant chain, said this week that it had seen an increase in sales despite eschewing across the board discounting.
