Operator of ‘hotel alternatives’ Living Rooms will be opening its fourth London hotel, The Laslett, in Notting Hill in summer 2015.

The Laslett will be spread across five Victorian mansions on Pembridge Gardens and will have 51 guest rooms and suites. It will also have a ‘lobby’ area which will be a multifunctional space housing a coffee shop, a bar-kitchen, and a concept store.

The hotel intends to host exhibitions and installations from local photographers and artists in the lobby space, while the store will sell a selection of prints, home ware and artisan products local to London.

The Laslett will be located less than a minute away from the Notting Hill Gate underground station, meaning Oxford Street and Westfield are ten minutes away on the tube. It will also be close to the Portobello Road market as well as a number of local bars and restaurants.

The hotel will be named after Rhaune Laslett, the organiser of the Notting Hill Carnival’s precursor, and will take inspiration for its design from the area’s ‘vibrant cultural heritage’ and ‘new wave of creative cool’.

Design and concept

The look for the Laslett was put together by architectural and interior designers Waldo Works. It is intended to be a combination of ‘hip and homely’ and to celebrate the culture of Notting Hill, mixing British identity with influences from all over the world.

On completion the hotel will have modern furnishings alongside a number of ‘quirks’. It will have a base colour scheme of monochrome with a number of stronger colours, textiles and textures to create contrast.

Guests will also find ‘well-chosen’ books, ‘proper’ blankets, and antiques from a local dealer around the hotel, as well as curated photographs and artworks on the walls.

Living Rooms describes its offering as an ‘alternative’ to a hotel and its sites include individually designed suites and rooms as well as serviced residences, to offer more ‘freedom’ for guests. Its other sites are located in Mayfair, Marylebone, and Little Venice.
