Glasgow's independent brewery, bar and restaurant concept WEST is to open its second permanent pub in Glasgow this month.

WEST on the Corner will open on the site of The Halt pub on Glasgow's Woodlands Road tomorrow (8 May) following a successful pop-up there last summer.

WEST owner Petra Wetzel has spent the last four months overseeing a refurbishment of the site to turn it into a 120-cover bar and restaurant with open kitchen.

She said: “I believe we have given 160 Woodlands Road a second lease of life. The new lay-out and offering is very much what myself, my family and my friends seek out when socialising. I wanted to create a place that we would all love as much as the original WEST on Glasgow Green.

“Woodlands Road was my home as a student at Glasgow University and I am thrilled that people in the local area (and from further afield) now have an alternative WEST in the West End.

“A versatile and laid back bar and restaurant, it’s the perfect spot to pop in for a coffee, have a pint, grab a quick bite or stay for a full three course meal."

WEST on the Corner will serve at least 10 beers from WEST Brewery and a menu featuring Scottish and German food. Wetzel plans to open the venue for breakfast with food served until 11pm daily.

Its opening comes nine years after German-born Wetzel opened her first pub alongside the brewery and beer hall at Templeton, Glasgow Green and is the first of two large-scale projects for the company.

Work has already started on the creation of a new brewery, due to open this autumn. The new, larger brewery is designed to increase WEST's brewing capacity 10-fold and help meet growing demand for its lagers and wheat beers which are stocked in outlets around the UK.
