Michelin-starred tapas group Barrafina is to launch a range of own-brand wines in supermarkets later this year.

The £8.00 Barrafina Verdejo Savignon Blanc will be available in selected Sainsbury’s stores throughout the UK from 29 October.

Barrafina owners Sam and Eddie Hart have teamed up with the Cuatro Rayas winery in Rueda, Spain, to create the new range, having served their wines since opening their first Soho restaurant in 2006.

“We know that lots of our diners come from all over the country to eat with us, so it’s great to make a little bit of Barrafina available nationwide for those who can’t get to the restaurants very often,” the company said in a statement.

“[This] sauvignon blend adds layers of complexity to make for a vibrant, easy drinking yet elegant wine. It works brilliantly with Mediterranean salads, fish and rice dishes.”

Barrafina has also produced a Garnacha, Garnacha Blanca and a Rioja wine, which will hit supermarket shelves in 2018.

A number of other restaurants offer own-brand wine, including Michel Roux Jr’s Le Gavroche, Brasserie Blanc and The Cubitt House pub group, but they are not available to the off-trade.

Barrafina's Frith Street site won a Michelin star in 2014, and the restaurant moved to nearby Dean Street in 2016. The group also operates two other restaurants in Covent Garden’s Adelaide Street and Drury Lane.
