Buns & Buns, the US-based restaurant that debuted in the UK at a delivery-only kitchen in Canary Wharf, has confirmed it is launching a bricks and mortar site in Covent Garden.

The restaurant concept, which is led by Alex Zibi, is opening at the 140-cover former Union Jacks site at 5 Covent Garden Piazza in March.

The health-focused sit-down restaurant, which combines quick service and fine dining, will serve burgers, steamed buns and salads as well as cocktails and juices.

“I found a huge gap in offering proper food served fast at an affordable price with high quality ingredients,” says Zibi. “That’s where we are coming into the market.”

“To eat well you have to pay a premium. You can’t eat well unless you can pay the price.”

Zibi says he will be adapting the concept for the UK market and the high tourist trade of Covent Garden, which he says will provide valuable insight into consumer preferences.

“Covent Garden is a great test because it is very touristy, and we will be able to find out what the people from each country like.”

Buns & Buns previously operated a restaurant in Miami but that has subsequently closed. It now operates a sole delivery-only site in Florida city.

The concept is backed by Ari Ojalvo of Samba Brands, the operator of Sushisamba and Duck & Waffle.
