Hospitality sector set to benefit from extended bank holiday in 2022
The May bank holiday weekend will be moved to Thursday 2 June and an additional Bank Holiday on Friday 3 June will mean a four-day weekend to celebrate The Queen’s 70-year reign - the first time any British monarch has reached this historic milestone.
According to the Government, the four-day celebrations will feature an extensive programme of events that mix the ‘best of British ceremonial splendour and pageantry with cutting edge artistic and technological displays’.
Plans for the Platinum Jubilee are being developed in conjunction with some of the UK’s leading event organisers, it says.
Bank holidays are historically good for hospitality businesses. Earlier this year The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Hospitality and Tourism (APPG) called on the Government to create an October bank holiday to boost trade in the sector.
VisitBritain also lobbied for an extra bank holiday to help make up for the two May bank holidays spent during the first nationwide lockdown.
