An outdoor festival-style street food, drinks, and entertainment venue will open in North Shields next month to take advantage of the lifting of restrictions on outside dining.

Called Burn It Up, it is being created by Tim Wilks, owner of boutique bowling businesses Lane7 and Gutterball and will open in 1.6-acre outdoor location opposite Royal Quays in North Shields on 12 April.

The outside venue will be able to accommodate 1,000 guests across five areas – The Pavilion, The Picture Yard, The Village Hall, Gin Garden, and Feastery Street. The latter will feature street food from some of the North East’s best traders, including Acropolis Street Food; burger brand What's Your Beef?; and Wood Fired Pizza Truck.

Burn It Up will also feature fairground rides, live music, comedy nights, and bingo in the 400-seater The Pavilion. The Picture Yard will screen film as well as this summer’s top sporting moments, including the delayed Euro 2020 matches, Wimbledon, and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

“With outdoor socialising becoming the new norm in hospitality, we want to inject some much-needed entertainment back into the calendar,” says Wilks.

“Crucially, this will be done in a safe and secure way in the lead up to summer and beyond. We’ve worked very closely and positively with all parties to make sure we deliver a safe, friendly environment for people to enjoy themselves in what is a large outdoor space.”

Covid-safe measures will be in place at the venue with staff greet guests on arrival and accompanying them to their reserved table. Service will be cashless using QR code-led ordering of food and drink at tables to minimise unnecessary movements around the venue.

Tables across the outdoor venue will be socially distanced, with hand sanitizer stations located throughout.

Burn It Up will be open daily from 3pm till late Monday to Thursday and from 9am till late Friday to Sunday.
