A hospitality recruitment drive for the hospitality and tourism sectors in Scotland has been launched in a bid to encourage more young people into the sector as a result of shortfall due to Brexit.

The campaign, which has been developed in partnership with the Scottish Tourism Alliance, is supported by £100,000 funding. An advertising campaign will promote the range of roles in the sectors and aim to help people find a job to match their skills as part of the scheme.

The aim of the campaign is support businesses to fill staff shortages in the wake of Brexit and encourage 18-30-year-olds play their part in helping firms recover from the pandemic, according to the Scottish Government.

“Tourism and hospitality businesses have been extremely hard hit by the pandemic and the ability to employ committed, talented and enthusiastic staff will be an important part of the recovery,” says Scotland’s Minister for Business, Trade, Tourism and Enterprise Ivan McKee.

“There are a host of job opportunities needing filled right now to suit a range of passions and interests and the possibilities for a career in hospitality are endless.”

The scheme, which has the backing of UKHospitality Scotland, is encouraging hospitality employers to list any job vacancies on the Careerscope jobs portal, which will be made available to the site’s users and those with profiles will be matched to suitable vacancies.

“This is an important and very welcome campaign, demonstrating the Scottish Government’s support for the country’s hospitality sector. Right now, many businesses are struggling to recruit a full workforce, resulting in closures and scaled back service,” says Leon Thompson, executive director at UKHospitality Scotland.

“The campaign, with its focus on young people, helps illustrate the variety of the jobs on offer and the terrific career opportunities that can be enjoyed by people entering hospitality.

“Hospitality is all about people and that starts with a talented and skilled workforce. UKHospitality is delighted to be supporting this campaign.”
