Brother Marcus chooses Borough Yards for next restaurant location

Popular Eastern Mediterranean brunch restaurant Brother Marcus has chosen the soon-to-open Borough Yards development for the location of its next site in the capital.

The restaurant group, which was founded by three best friends, Arthur, Alex and Tas and which is known for its small plates and brunch offer, will open a 2,000sq ft, 106-cover restaurant in spring 2022. It will join the group's existing restaurants in Spitalfields and Angel following the closure of its Balham site earlier this year.

The eastern Mediterranean-inspired menu will feature ingredients bought from local vendors at the neighbouring Borough Market with the restaurant serving brunch in the mornings and sharing plates in the evenings. Many dishes will be cooked on a robata grill in the restaurant's open kitchen.

The décor will take inspiration from its Borough Yards setting, which comprises a series of reimagined Victorian brick railway arches, viaducts and warehouses, and combine it with Brother Marcus’ classic Mediterranean aesthetic, with stonewashed walls, hanging lights and lanterns, and rattan furniture.

“We are very excited about this new project especially opening so close to one of London’s oldest and most renowned food markets, and can’t wait to use all the fresh produce from the market in our dishes,” says director and co-founder Tas Gaitanos.

“Having opened our first Brother Marcus restaurant south of the river it’s nice to be back.”

The new restaurant will join restaurant groups including Harts Group, Butchies and Vinoteca at the Southwark-based development.

Borough Yards developer MARK was advised by Distrkt and CWM.
