Cocktail-led bar and restaurant brand 63rd+1st has announced plans to open in Edinburgh in the second quarter of 2022, its fifth site since the Fridays-inspired offshoot launched last year.

The Hostmore-backed group has acquired the former Café Rouge location on Frederick Street in the Scottish capital, which spans approximately 3,500 sq ft.

Featuring a large bar and lounge area adjacent to a restaurant space, it will seat more than 100 guests inside with an additional 26 covers available on a heated outside terrace.

First announced in late 2020, 63rd+1st made its debut in May last year in Cobham, Surrey, and has since gone on to launch in Glasgow and Harrogate, North Yorkshire. A fourth site, in Cambridge, is expected to open in the coming months.

The concept is inspired by the original Fridays that was founded in 1965 in Manhattan, New York, by salesman lan Stillman on the corner of 63 Street and 1 Avenue, and which featured in the Tom Cruise film Cocktail.

“We are delighted to be bringing the fifth 63rd+1st to the capital of Scotland, a city we know well, and in doing so continue to share the 63rd+1st experience with guests from across this great city and region,” says Robert B. Cook, CEO of 63rd+1st.

“Situated a stone’s throw from George Street, and a short walk from most of Edinburgh’s great hospitality venues, we simply love the location of our first Edinburgh venue.

“63rd+1st represents the coming together of people, culture, tastes and styles. Our menu will undoubtedly entertain and excite all our guests courtesy of fantastic cocktails created by a team of expert bartenders and our New York City street food-inspired menu.”
